[Elephant Sanctuary]
Our lovingly nurtured Elephant Sanctuary Khao Lak happily invites you for a truly special, inspiring, and equally humbling elephant experience in an original place of an elephant’s home while respectfully making friends with those elephants. At our ethical and eco-tourism sustainable based Elephant Sanctuary, elephants can just be elephants.
[What is the Purpose of Our Elephant Sanctuary?]
Our primary purpose is to be a leader in the care and exhibition of Elephants and the education of our guests about Elephants and their Conservation. We lead by example and contribute to a positive change in the Perception of Elephants, where Elephants are not poached, ridden, overworked nor abused. Instead, our elephants are treated with care, love, and respect in a natural place like their original home at our Sanctuary.
[How Many Elephants Are There?]
At the moment, we have 9 elephants. Most of the time, you’ll see some of the elephants because the others are usually roaming around and grazing freely on lush vegetation that grows all over the Elephant Sanctuary.
[Elephant Timetable]
Although our elephants are free to live their life as an elephant should, they do have timetables such as bathing time, feeding time, grazing time, and health check-up time, among others.
So, when you are at the Elephant Sanctuary for a Half-Day tour, some of those elephants will be there to welcome you and wait for the food that you are going to make for them. The elephants seem to have known that special feeding time when they are meeting new friends. So, they are happy to have you there.
[What Else Are There in the Sanctuary?]
Our Elephant Sanctuary is huge, the biggest in Khaolak. In addition to tall trees, plants, and elephants’ houses and playing grounds, the Sanctuary contains several stations that show how elephants had lived alongside local people, how local people made a living by using the natural resources around them especially coconut and rubber trees, and how a traditional Thai kitchen alongside several varieties of locally grown Thai rice look like.
The stations clearly carry our elephant conservation message: local people can make a good living using natural resources around them without needing to force elephants into hard labor.
