[Por Ta Khaolak] [Source: my friend]
Por Ta Khaolak Shrine is a memorial worshiping place dedicated to the Buddhist Hermit who had lived here decades ago. He was at that time already the oldest local. And it is said he knew the whole story of Khaolak—the ups and downs, the changes—and the fates of every individual living here.

He also knew how to foretell about the future of the people looking to know about it. His blessings had brought good luck to people’s lives.

It is said no one knows what happened to him, where he had gone to, or if he had died. But over the years, people had reported having seen him again. Sometimes, he would appear standing or sitting on the rocks where he used to meditate.

In honor of his spirit and dedication to the story of Khaolak and the people in it, the local government built a shrine for him. Over the years, people who know him or his story would come and pay respect to his spirit at the shrine.

[Moken Village]
Moken Village is home to ethnically Moken people whose culture, way of life, and language are different from those of other Thai people in general. At this village while they keep their own traditions, the tribe is being assimilated into Thai society. The tribe’s young people go to Thai schools and adopt Thai culture and language as their own.

Locally, the Moken young generations who are becoming New Thais are often called Chao Thai Mai.
